I must warn you! Chalk painting is a real addiction, after my husband and I painted one piece of furniture I wanted to paint everything we own! He of course wouldn’t let me so I went to the next best thing, raiding my parents house. My mom agreed to let me help refurbish her bar stools that needed some updating.
So First things first, choose what you will be painting. My husband has a good point, don’t paint everything in the house. Some things are better left as they are. (Even though I could literally paint everything muahaha) Painting my mom’s stools were perfect because as you can see below they were a brown color and painting them white really really helped open everything up. My parents also have white subway tiles in their kitchen and the white tied everything together nicely. Okay, so did you pick what you are painting? Now, lets pick your poison. My absolute favorite brand is by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I have to give my mother-in-law all the credit for introducing me to her product! Lastly, choose what type of look you are going for, in my photo below there is a direct link to Annie Sloan’s website. You will see the page has many tutorials on how to achieve different looks. Don’t be intimidated, her paint is very user friendly and anyone can do it!
One of the reasons why I love her stuff so much is because she has so many colors to offer, but also the simplicity of how the chalk paint gets applied! There is NO prep work necessary, that means no priming, sanding, and all that annoying stuff! You can even paint this stuff onto metal or brass, it’s amazing. Another reason is, you can customize and create whatever colors you want by mixing different colors together. The options are endless!! You can tell I love this stuff. Annie Sloan also offers these brushes designed specifically for the application, that allows you to do different techniques for various looks. Would love to see your chalk paint work as well! If you have pictures of projects you have done with chalk paint, please comment below or tag me in your photos!
Happy Chalk Painting!!!
